When validating a vendor’s banking information, the PaymentWorks Team uses a secure and vetted process to contact phone numbers that can be publicly validated as being owned by the business. This ensures the integrity of the validation process and protects sensitive financial data.
What Is a Publicly Validated Phone Number?
A publicly validated phone number is one that:
- Can be verified as being associated with the business.
- Is sourced through a secure, pre-vetted process by the PaymentWorks Team.
- Is validated using industry-leading third-party verification tools, such as:
- Dun & Bradstreet
- Thompson Reuters CLEAR
- Smarty Streets
Examples of Sources for Publicly Validated Phone Numbers:
- The business’s official website.
- Public business directories such as Yellow Pages or Google Business Listings.
- Information filed with government agencies, like the Secretary of State records.
Note: The team may or may not call the phone number listed in the vendor registration if it cannot be publicly validated.
Phone Numbers That Are Typically Not Acceptable
Unless these numbers can be vetted and validated, they are generally not used:
- Personal Cell Phones
- Personal Home Phones
- Business Phone Lines Not Publicly Associated with the Business
- Phone Numbers Provided to PaymentWorks by the Payer
Why This Matters
By leveraging industry-leading verification tools and publicly validated phone numbers, PaymentWorks ensures a secure and reliable method of verifying vendor information, minimizing risks of fraud or errors during the banking validation process.
