Using an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) in PaymentWorks

If you have a non-U.S. bank account and need to enter your banking information into PaymentWorks for ACH payments from your customer, you’ll use your International Bank Account Number (IBAN). However, the PaymentWorks system requires only a specific portion of your IBAN: the Bank Account Number.

Understanding Your IBAN

An IBAN is a unique identifier used for international banking. It includes various elements such as country codes, bank codes, and your actual bank account number. When entering your IBAN in PaymentWorks, you will need to identify and enter only the Bank Account Number portion of your IBAN, as the system does not support full IBAN entries.

Steps to Find Your Bank Account Number

  1. Visit an IBAN Reference Tool
Navigate to the IBAN Country List to find details about your country’s IBAN structure.

  2. Select Your Country
Click on the country where your bank account is located. For example, if your bank account is in the United Kingdom, click on the "United Kingdom" link.

  3. Review Your Country's IBAN Format
    On the country-specific page:

    • Locate the example IBAN provided on the left-hand side.
    • Review the explanation of the IBAN structure on the right-hand side, which breaks down the IBAN into its components.
  4. Extract the Bank Account Number
Identify the portion of the IBAN labeled as the Bank Account Number. This is the only portion you’ll need to enter into PaymentWorks.

Entering Your Bank Account Number in PaymentWorks

  1. Log in to your PaymentWorks account.
  2. Navigate to the section where you’re required to enter your bank details.
  3. Input only the Bank Account Number portion of your IBAN in the Bank Account field.
  4. Save your changes and proceed with your registration.
