A registration can be returned for various reasons, including:
- Tax ID (TIN) discrepancies
Note: If your Tax ID does not match the IRS database, the system will automatically return your registration. All Tax IDs are processed through the IRS as the first layer of authentication. - Bank account verification issues
- W-9 form errors
- Other required information inaccuracies
Important:
All registrations pass through PaymentWorks for initial review before being forwarded to your customer for final approval. Your registration may be returned by:

PaymentWorks:
When PaymentWorks identifies an issue (e.g., Tax ID or validation errors), your registration will be returned with a message specifying the problem. -
Your Customer:
Once your registration reaches your customer, they may return it with specific requests or corrections.- If your customer returns the registration, you will receive a message detailing the issue and next steps.
- For customer-specific return reasons, you must work directly with your customer to resolve the issue.
All return reasons—whether from PaymentWorks or your customer—will appear in your account messages.
How to View the Message Explaining the Issue
To access messages and understand why your registration was returned:

Log in to your PaymentWorks account:

Click on the Messages tab in the top navigation menu.

Select the New Vendor Request tab.

Locate the most recent message and click on it to view the details.
- This message will specify the reason for the return and include steps to correct the issue.
- If the return is customer-related, the message will direct you to work with your customer for resolution.
